Privacy Notice
Who we are
DrJ-GPT / Dr Johnson's Parlour (the “Service”) is operated by Ed Goold (“we”, “us”, “our”). Contact: contact@drj-gpt.co.uk.
What data we collect
We collect only the personal data described below:
- Waitlist email address. If you choose to join the waitlist, we collect the email address you submit.
- Technical logs (minimal). Like most websites, our hosting providers may process limited technical data as part of delivering the Service and keeping it secure (for example, standard server access logs). We do not use this information for advertising.
- Text you submit to tools (processed, not stored by us). If you use the chat, writing criticism, or prayer tools, the text you submit is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. We do not store that text after the response is returned to you.
Anthropic may process data submitted to their API in accordance with their own policies. You should review Anthropic's privacy information at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
Cookies
We do not use advertising cookies. We only use cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary to operate the Service (for example, basic session or security functionality).
How we use your data
We use your data only to:
- Operate the Service (including returning AI-generated responses).
- Manage the waitlist, including notifying you if and when broader access becomes available.
- Maintain security and prevent abuse (for example, rate limiting and monitoring for misuse).
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share your email address with third parties for marketing.
Where we store your data
Waitlist email addresses are stored using Upstash Redis. Upstash may store data on servers within the UK/EEA and/or the United States. Where data is transferred outside the UK/EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards permitted under applicable data protection law.
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
Where UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the basis of:
- Consent (for waitlist sign-up); and/or
- Legitimate interests (to operate, secure, and improve the Service); and/or
- Contract (to provide the Service you request).
Data retention
- Waitlist emails: retained until you unsubscribe, ask for deletion, or until the waitlist is no longer needed.
- Tool input text: not retained by us after responding (see above).
- Technical logs: retained by providers for limited periods in line with their standard practices.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact contact@drj-gpt.co.uk.
Contact
If you have questions or requests relating to privacy, email contact@drj-gpt.co.uk.
Acceptable Use Policy
Permitted use
The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial, educational, and entertainment purposes. You may use it to converse with the AI representation of Dr Samuel Johnson, to receive literary feedback on your writing, and to request the composition of prayers.
Prohibited conduct
You must not use the Service to:
- Submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harassing, or fraudulent.
- Attempt to generate content that incites hatred or discrimination on the basis of protected characteristics.
- Request or generate instructions for wrongdoing or harm (including self-harm).
- Attempt to circumvent safeguards, manipulate, or “jailbreak” the system.
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access the Service in a way that imposes unreasonable load or scrapes outputs at scale.
- Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or reproduce system prompts, model configurations, keys, or other non-public elements of the Service.
- Submit personal data about third parties without their knowledge or consent.
Demo access and usage limits
We may offer free demo access subject to usage limits (currently five conversations, two writing critiques, and three prayers per browser session, subject to change). We may modify, restrict, or withdraw demo access at any time.
Enforcement
We may restrict or terminate access for any user who breaches this policy or applicable law. We are not obliged to monitor use, but we may do so to maintain safety, compliance, and service reliability.
Terms & Conditions
1. Agreement
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. The Service (character AI; no advice)
The Service provides AI-generated text in the character of Dr Samuel Johnson (1709–1784). Outputs are generated by a large language model and may be creative, fictional, inaccurate, anachronistic, or inappropriate.
The Service does not provide legal, medical, financial, pastoral, or other professional advice. You must not rely on outputs as a substitute for professional advice.
3. Your content
You are responsible for content you submit. You confirm you have the right to submit it and that it does not infringe others' rights or break the law.
If you submit personal data about someone else, you confirm you have their permission or another lawful basis to do so.
4. Intellectual property
All intellectual property rights in the Service (including software, design, prompts, and branding) belong to us or our licensors.
Your writing remains yours. We grant you a personal licence to use and share outputs you receive from the Service for non-commercial purposes.
If you want to reproduce or exploit outputs commercially (for example, publishing as part of a paid product or book), contact contact@drj-gpt.co.uk.
5. Availability and changes
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms; continuing to use the Service means you accept the updated Terms.
6. Disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, error-free performance, or accuracy or suitability of outputs.
7. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it cannot lawfully be limited (for example, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
Subject to the above, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses arising from reliance on AI-generated outputs.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of:
- £100, or
- the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months before the claim.
8. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
